Dimensity 2000 will be made on the TSMC 4nm node

A month ago, an speculation stated that MediaTek’s upcoming generation of flagship Dimensity chipsets will be based on the latest design of ARMv9. This is in line with earlier reports that MediaTek is among the first companies to place orders using TSMC’s 4nm foundries..

The chip is being tentatively named”the Dimensity 2000 and leakster Digital Chat Station confirms the above and gives specifics about its design.

It will include one Cortex-X2 Prime core that runs with 3.0 GHz, three Cortex-A710 cores, and the four A510 cores. This is basically the exact configuration that is used in that of the Snapdragon 898 and the Exynos 2200 (though both will be manufactured using Samsung’s 4 nanometer procedure instead).

The GPU is believed to be Mali-G710-MC10. With Samsung switching into an AMD GPU, and Huawei is having difficulty making new chips, the Dimensity might represent the initial (and for a short time only) chipset that utilizes the latest G710.

The G710 runs 20 percent more efficient that the G78 that it replaces, according to official ARM numbers. Samsung has been reported to have the 30% increase over the older Mali using AMD’s GPU. In any case it is worth noting that the G710 is also expected to deliver a 20% boost in power efficiency as well as a 35% higher performance in tasks that require machine learning.

Both the CPU and the GPU, performance will be determined by the speed of clocks that are achievable using the two 4 nanometer nodes. The Exynos 2200 also targets 3.0 GHz, Qualcomm may be targeting slightly higher, with 3.09 GHz, according to Ice Universe.

Although we’ve seen a few early benchmarks , which are supposedly running on the Exynos however, it’s still for now to determine what this final chip will fare. The three chips are expected to be released at the end of the year or early in January. MediaTek is believed to be planning to release the brand new Dimensity series before 2021’s close however with the current crisis in the semiconductor industry, plans are frequently changed. However the first ARMv9 smartphones that use the new chipsets are expected to arrive by the end of next year.
